Not long ago I connected with some creative Mum’s who had popped up on my radar following the launch of Junior’s and from my work with Studio Home.
To me creating a space for children seems to sit apart from nesting for ourselves and the amount of love and effort that goes into it is often tripled! So spurred on by the opportunity to share some of these stories in the latest issue of Homestyle too, I put petrol in my car and got moving!
Its with great pleasure that I introduce the first sneak peak into the room of baby Thea Ruby created by her creative Mum, Emma Highfield – the voice behind Beau Monde Mama and new online store; Beau Monde Babe ! Emma and her little family live in the lovely area of Arkles Bay on Whangaparoa Peninsula north of Auckland.
As you can see Thea was pretty wee when we shot this and was till in a bassinet however this beautiful room was ready and waiting for her.
Enjoy the pics and scroll to the bottom to get an insight into how Emma put this little soft haven together.
WHO LIVES HERE?
Emma Highfield – mum/wife/designer/blogger/creative
Steven Shalfoon – Daddy/husband/business owner
Thea Ruby Shalfoon – cutie/eating and sleeping machine – 4.5 months old
Charlie the Border Collie and Pepper the Cat
WHAT WAS YOUR PLAN BEHIND THE DECORATION OF THIS ROOM?
I wanted to create a fun and flexible space that wasn’t too ‘girly’ and was based around the graphic feature wall in her room. I opted for a neutral base and used peach and monochrome accents for the décor.
It was also important to me to include a large chalkboard somewhere in her room as I want her room to be a place that she can enjoy and play in. Her room is designed to be easily adapted as she develops her own tastes and preferences and is hopefully a space she will love when she gets a bit older.
WHAT ARE YOUR FAVOURITE FEATURES ?
My favourite feature in her room is the graphic feature wall which I masked up and painted myself – it took hours but was worth all the effort! I am obsessed with my nursing chair that I found at Freedom Furniture, it is super comfortable and the arm rests are the perfect height.
Cot is from Farmers.
Blankets: Kate & Kate, Jamie Kay.
Cushions: Henry & Co Home, Lorna Love, Society6.
Bed linen: Feliz and pillowcase is Beau Loves
Art prints: White Fox & Co, Henry & Co, Society6
Felt Garland: Jamie Kay
IN HINDSIGHT, IF YOU COULD MAKE ANY CHANGES WHAT WOULD THEY BE?
I would really like to replace the rug, I struggled to find something that complimented the feature wall in her room
DID YOU GET CRAFTY YOURSELF? ANY DIY FEATURES THAT YOU PULLED TOGETHER?
I repainted the entire room then masked and painted the feature wall. I also made the bunting above her cot and the wooden/glitter name letters. My husband painted the chalkboards and made the house bookshelf and my dad made the brackets for her shelves – her room really is a labor of love!
